                                 Volunteers

WAIM is in need of good volunteers to assist with check-in Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Take leadership in the clothes sorting area (we are trying to do a better job of categorizing the clothing for easier selection). Become a Volunteer Coordinator help us recruit, train and help volunteers. Assist on the Loading Dock with pick-ups and deliveries of donations. We are also in need of Bilingual volunteers. Volunteers with Office Procedure and computer skills to help with data entry. Some volunteer opportunities require very little training. There is some heavy lifting involved with the Loading Dock position.

Video/ Media Volunteers

We are offering an internship for a communication major at ECSU, whose main task will be to create a video of WAIM's many programs, events and activities between September and December.

This video will be about 15 minutes in length when edited and will be designed for use at presentations given by WAIM staff, board, delegates and volunteers. It will accompany our narratives and will lend visual impact to what we say.

This project may not fill an entire 120 hour internship. In that case, we will ask the intern to work with us during our very busy fall season to do the publicity and outreach for one or more of our seasonal programs. This may be the Adopt-a-Family program that matches donor and recipient families for the holidays, the Walk-for-Warmth that launches our fuel assistance season, or other holiday programs that benefit the low income community in and around Willimantic.

WAIM is a program that redistributes clothing, household goods and furniture to the low income community. We also offer fuel assistance and a wide variety of seasonal programs, fundraisers and outreach activities designed to assist people make a good life for themselves. Our factory site, our many special programs and fundraising activities make fascinating raw material for a narrated video.

Please call Evelyn Solla or Victoria Nimirowski at 456-7270 for more information about this exciting internship project.
